Your GRE Application Timeline for 2023 Fall Intake
The following is a sample schedule for students entering graduate school in fall 2023. If this applies to you, you will get ample time to prepare a great application, resolve any unforeseen problems (a lost transcript, a delinquent recommender) and submit it before the deadline.
July 2022: As of now, you must have already started prepping for the GRE, since you are already over the deadline. If you have not yet started, do it now.
Sign up for a GRE test prep course at Gradeway Prep without any delay. Register for the practice GRE general test as well in case you need it. Identify schools that interest you and request information from them. Get in touch with some of your former professors at your alma mater. In addition to recommending good programs, they may be able to connect you with other people as well. Gradeway Prep will be more than happy to assist you even if you do not have any contacts.
August 2022: When you've finished the practice GRE test, evaluate your answers. In case you aren't happy with your results, you can take the test again until you're fit. Make a start on your statement of purpose.
September 2022: You can register for the November GRE subject test (if you need it). Make your final list of prospective schools, and get to know the professors at each school who share your research interests. Obtain recommendations from your recommenders. Make sure your statement of purpose is polished.
October 2022: Submit an official transcript request to your undergraduate institution. Provide your recommenders with additional materials (such as your resume, personal statement, etc.) that they can use for reference purposes. If you are considering attending a particular college, get in touch with students and professors there. It would be helpful if you could visit the campus.
November 2022: It is also a good idea to have someone in the field and a few smart (and honest) friends review your personal statement. Make sure your GRE scores are sent directly to schools after you take the subject test.
December 2022: Ensure that you submit all graduate applications, keeping copies of each section for your records. Check to see if your recommendations have been sent.
You can expect university decisions by the end of January or the beginning of April 2023.
Ensure that your loans are secured by May 2023 & appear for visa interviews by June-July 2023.
Getting started early will increase your chances of getting into graduate school if you're planning to apply. Graduate programs often operate on a rolling admission system, which means applications are evaluated as they come in (rather than all at once after the deadline).
Maximum attempt limit for GRE?
The GRE General Test can be taken once every 21 days up to five times in a continuous rolling 12-month period. Currently, there is no maximum lifetime limit.
What is a Good GRE Score?
Are GRE scores really important? Do you have a good enough GRE score to get into the graduate school of your choice? A "good" GRE score varies according to the programs you're considering. A recent study found that the average GRE verbal score is 150, and the average GRE math score is 152.
It is important to note that the relative weight given to the GRE General Test varies from field to field and from school to school because it is used for such a wide range of graduate school programs (including some business schools!). Develop the best GRE prep plan based on the universities you plan to apply to!
GRE Scores Range
130–170, in 1-point increments
130–170, in 1-point increments
0–6, in half-point increments

Your Standardized test scores
